By Chet Layman, KBZK NewsFrom ski resort in the mountains to growing year-round community. That’s the quick history of Big Sky. The next step in that history is underway with work on a full-service hospital for the community moving at full speed. The first step in the construction of this 43,000 square foot medical center.“It’s going to be a full service hospital with 24/7 365 emergency services,” said Cheryl Ridgely of the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. “We’ll also have a clinic, imaging lab, fully ancillary service capabilities here.”Bozeman Deaconess has had this idea in the works for more than a decade…and when it opens next fall it will change life in Big Sky and areas to the south forever.“First of all it keeps people from having to drive 50 miles to find advanced medical services, so that’s the first thing,” said Ridgely. “Secondly, they’re building Big Sky to be a world-class resort community and having health care is part of that infrastructure is critical for that.”Work currently a little ahead of schedule, and moving right along.“It’s always nice to be associated with a project that welcomed in a community,” said Dan Dooley, with Langlas Construction. “And with Big Sky being a reasonably small it’s a nice to be a part of.”The hospital being built for the future too. Expansion part of the master plan to serve the area for the next 15-20 years. The hospital set to open before the holiday season next year.

Bozeman was a very different place 100 years ago. Imagine living in the Tinsley House at the Museum of the Rockies. (By the way, visiting this Living History Farm is free all summer!) The gold rush that brought so many people through the Gallatin Valley on the Bozeman Trail was over, and those people were settling in to new lives on Montana’s open land. The town of Bozeman was established in 1864, and by the early 1900s, its population had grown to more than 3,000 people. Montana Agricultural College had started offering classes, and the Northern Pacific Railroad provided an artery to the outside world.Several businesses became established near the railroad tracks, including the Bozeman Canning Company in 1917. More than 200 people spent their days canning peas in the four-story building still standing near the corner of Rouse Avenue and Oak Street. Thousands of cases of peas were packaged there for decades, until the early 1960s when the last owner closed up shop. The towering cannery building, warehouse and other outbuildings then housed various industrial companies or sat empty for quite some time. The most recent occupants, Revelation Industries, built electrical circuits and lighting, some of which are installed in New York City’s Times Square. When Revelation’s owners decided to move on, they sold the cannery building and surrounding 8.5 acres to Barry Brown and Scott Dehlendorf.Learn more and read the full article in Bozeman Magazine.

You can get the full story in the December 2013 issue of Bakken Living. Here’s what the article had to say about the involvement of Langlas and Associates:
Langlas & Associates out of Billings and Bozeman were the general contractors. John Reynolds noted that they did “an unbelievably amazing job” considering some of the challenges they faced during construction, Market including a wet spring. “Those guys just trudged through it, rain or shine,” Reynolds said.“This will be a one-stop shop for a lot of people,” Ben Flanagan, Langlas and Associates superintendent, said. The project cost approximated $10 million, with Stockman Bank assisting in the finances. The new location has hired many new staff members, although its short a few workers (an to oil boom impact, no doubt), John Reynolds And said, “We’re ready to go.”

As a girl, Ileana Indreland remembers Sunday drives through the historic neighborhoods of Bozeman, Montana. Compared to her family's working ranch in nearby Cokedale, the trimmed lawns, three-story houses and the elegant architecture of town seemed ornate. One house in particular — a graceful brick home with fluted columns and three gables on the top floor — captured her imagination.
"Whenever we'd pass this house, I'd wonder how it looked inside and what it would be like to live in a house like that," she reflects with a smile as she sits in the sunroom of the very house she admired as a child.
Realizing a childhood dream, Ileana and her husband Michael Delaney purchased the 1913-era home and neighboring structure in 2006. Accustomed to making swift decisions in their real estate and development business, Delaney and Company, the couple assembled an A-team to renovate and modernize the house. Drawing on the expertise of Thomas Bitnar of Bitnar Architects, and general contractor Langlas & Associates in Bozeman, they set out to build an addition that matched the historic architecture and return the Georgian Colonial Revival Style residence to its intended grandeur.
