Job Description

Location: Billings, MT

The Foreman directs daily assignment of Carpenters who build, erect, install and repair forms, structures and other fixtures made from wood, metal and other materials as needed to assist with the various types of constructions projects. These tasks will be performed on residential and commercial construction projects. The Forman works directly for the Superintendent and assists in labor, budget and quality management.

Qualifications and Required Skills

  1. Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
  2. Ability to communicate and follow instructions in English
  3. Ability to read, write and do basic math
  4. Must provide own basic tools
  5. Good physical condition and endurance
  6. Previous construction experience of at least five years is required
  7. Knowledge of layout and framing with wood and metal is required
  8. Ability to read and understand blueprints or building plans
  9. Completion of a two-year carpentry program through a trade school and/or accredited carpenter’s apprenticeship program is desired
  10. Must be able to mentor, instruct and oversee up to 20 individuals daily
  11. Must be OSHA 10 certified
  12. OSHA 30 and SWPPP certifications are desired
  13. Must be certified in telehandler, skidsteer, scissor lift and boom lift operation
  14. Preferred experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam and Procore
  15. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical

Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  1. Shows up to work on time for the required shift at the assigned job site
  2. Receives and follows all instructions from Superintendents
  3. Keeps all tools clean and in working condition
  4. Helps maintain a clean job site by conducting housekeeping (cleaning trash, removing debris, sweeping, etc.)
  5. Oversees and conducts demolition of structures
  6. Loads, unloads and moves building materials
  7. Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects
  8. Installs windows, doors and weather protection materials
  9. Assembles and installs fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, hinges and closers
  10. Works with Safety personnel to ensure work is being conducted safely and the job site is free of unneeded hazards
  11. Lines out all Carpenters daily and oversees their work for quality control

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Mentors and trains all Carpenters
  2. Any other tasks provided by Safety personnel or Superintendents
  3. Assists in the weekly safety meeting and enforces safety standards

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position is strenuous. Applicants must be able to lift and carry heavy objects. Applicants must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Activities will include climbing ladders or scaffolding, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling and standing for long periods of time. Applicants must have full dexterity of the neck, back, arms and legs. Applicants must be able to see clearly and recognize small details. Applicants must be able to sit in an office environment and use a tablet, keyboard and mouse. Applicants must be able to communicate by phone and text messaging.
